feather knot extensions.

Feather knot extensions are a luxury service designed to add volume and length to natural hair.

  • No beads, glue, or heat which makes for a gentler and softer method.

  • Full 360° movement which allows you to style your hair any way you like.

  • Simple removal by carefully cutting the thread and gently de-mat.

  • Reusable hair that can last 9 to 15 months with proper care.

  • Customizable colour blends and mixes tailored to match seamlessly.

  • Texture options available in straight, natural wavy, and chemically permed curly (note: permed curl does not last as long due to the chemical process).

  • Longer install time (average 6 hours), but the results are worth every minute. Reinstalls are done every 12 weeks on average.

Lightweight, comfortable, and seamless — Feather Knot Extensions are a trusted method for achieving beautiful, natural results.

To get started, please let us know:

  • Have you worn extensions before? If yes: method, length & weight, and when you last wore them.

  • What are your goals with extensions — more volume or added length (or both)?

We’ll then send you an estimated price. Please note that these prices are subject to change.

Colour Match & Deposit

  • If you decide to move forward, a mandatory colour-match appointment deposit of $75 + HST will need to be e-transferred to dianaleehair@gmail.com.

  • This deposit is non-refundable, but if the hair is ordered and paid for on the same day, this deposit will go towards that total.

  • Hair must be ordered within 2 weeks of this appointment, otherwise a new appointment will be required as colour could potentially change, especially chemically treated hair or those who spend time in the sun,

  • Liability waiver must be signed before arriving to this appointment, so any initial questions can be addressed.

Order & Refund Policy

  • Payment for new hair is due in full at the time of order.

  • All sales are final once the hair has been ordered. No refunds once the order is placed.

First Installation Appointments

Your installation appointment will be scheduled for approximately three weeks after your hair has been ordered.

While rare, shipping delays can occur and are beyond our control. If this happens, your appointment will need to be rescheduled. You will be notified as soon as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

“Bring Your Own Hair”

If hair is sourced independently or through another provider, there will be a $100 + hst fee per set of hair, in addition to the standard installation charge.

Pre-Appointment Preparation

  • Clean hair: Wash the night before twice with a clarifying shampoo. Do not apply conditioner, oils, or products near the roots. If hair is not clean, a wash may be required (time permitting) for an additional fee. If timing does not allow, the service may be rescheduled and your deposit forfeited.

  • Night before wash: Blow-dry fully and straight if washing the night before. Do not go to bed with wet hair, as this can cause buildup and unwanted residue.

  • Day-of wash: If you prefer, arrive with freshly washed damp hair—clean is more important than dry. Dirty, dry hair is not acceptable.

  • Comfort: Extension appointments can take hours, so feel free to bring snacks, lunch, water, or entertainment.

  • Work From Home: You’re welcome to bring your laptop and connect to the free Wi-Fi if you need to work during your appointment.

Aftercare

To ensure the best experience, clients must understand the required care, potential risks (outlined in waiver prior to initial installation), and maintenance schedule before committing to this service.

General Care Guidelines

  • Brush extensions gently, morning, midday and night. Hold at base with one hand, while brushing with the other, always. Brush starting from the bottom up to the root.

  • After 2–3 weeks, natural hair shedding will begin. As this occurs, the knots should be gently separated 1–2 times per week to prevent matting or tangling. Please reach out if further clarification or guidance is needed.

  • Avoid excessive pulling and tight hairstyles

  • Double shampoo your scalp each time you wash, and make sure to rinse thoroughly. A clean scalp is essential for healthy hair growth — so don’t skip wash day! Itchy/dry scalp typically means dirty scalp.

  • Always blow-dry extensions on medium to low heat—keeping both hair and scalp dry prevents damage.

  • Try to avoid using dry shampoo. If you feel like you need it, it’s a sign it’s time to wash instead.

  • When using hot tools, use heat protectant and ensure hair is dry. Recommended setting is 310F.

  • Protect from sun with hats and UV-protecting products.

  • Apply conditioner mixed with water before swimming in saltwater and chlorine.

  • Avoid sunscreen with Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) as it can make the tone pinkish-orange and can be irreversable.

What To Expect

  • Some clients may experience scalp sensitivity during the first night. These extensions are like tiny ponytails, so there is an adjustment period. If sensitivity persists beyond a few days, the scalp may not be suitable for this type of extension and will have to monitor.

  • Some clients may experience mild scalp itchiness during while the scalp adjusts to the added hair. This is often caused by the extension returns poking the scalp and typically subsides after the first wash, once the return hairs settle and lay flat. Alternatively, it may be due to product buildup or residual shampoo or conditioner from insufficient cleansing. Avoid skipping wash days — a clean scalp is essential to prevent irritation and maintain scalp health. If itchiness persists beyond a week, please schedule a complimentary adjustment appointment for assessment.

  • It is normal to see some white, round hair follicles sticking out of the knots distributed over the 12-week period. This is natural shedding, as the hair you normally lose (about 60–100 hairs) can get trapped in the knots. What is not normal is seeing large amounts of hair at once, which may indicate excessive hair loss or overly aggressive handling.

  • Slippage of a few hair pieces is normal over the course of the 12-week period. These can be trimmed at home or brought in for a complimentary adjustment. More than a few slipping over the first week is not normal; a complimentary adjustment appointment should be scheduled.

  • Losing 5–10 hair pieces from the scalp over a 12-week period is normal, usually toward the end of the wear cycle it would occur. If shedding occurs at the beginning, please book a complimentary adjustment appointment.

  • Please collect all loose extension hair than has fallen out to be re-used in a safe place to bring to the next reinstallation service. New hair will not be provided unless purchased and in stock.

  • In cases of abnormal shedding or aggressive hair loss, consistent scalp sensitivity or continued itchiness where it is causing harm, removal of the extensions may be recommended, and payment for the removal service will be required.

Recommended Products

  • Brush: Use an extension-friendly brush 3 times daily to prevent tangling and pulling. Brush should not have balls on the tips. Brands such as Wet Brush or Tangle Teezers are safe. Dannyco cushion brush with nylon bristles is a client fave.

  • Products: Always use hydrating, professional-quality products. Go to “custom colour.” page for detailed recommendations.

Hair Quality & Longevity

  • New hair extensions are washed and clarified before installation to check for quality and remove any chemical coatings. If the hair is deemed poor quality after this initial wash, new hair will be ordered and a new appointment scheduled approximately three weeks later. While this never happens, we apologize if this were to happen.

  • Colour fading is normal and expected.

  • Extension hair will naturally experience wear and tear over time, which includes gradual shortening from both daily use and the trims performed at each reinstall.

  • Average lifespan of extension hair is 9 months to 15 months with proper maintenance. Replacement of hair extensions may be required sooner depending on care & length. Natural length sometimes outgrows the extension length.

Maintenance Appointments

  • Reinstallation is recommended at 10-12 weeks.

  • Extensions may be worn up to 16 weeks with stylist approval; additional fees apply as removal usually takes a bit longer.

  • If severe matting or tangling occurs, extra time will be required for removal and an additional fee will be charged.

  • Wearing extensions beyond 16 weeks is not recommended, as this can cause damage to the natural hair and scalp.

  • If appointments are consistently extended past the recommended schedule, or if excessive matting becomes a recurring issue, future services may be declined.

  • Following this maintenance guideline helps protect both your natural hair and your extensions.

Guarantee

If extensions slip or fall out within 3 weeks of installation or reinstallation, please contact right away. Certain hair types may experience this, and re-tying will be provided to those hair types at no additional cost.
